Jhe Washington Center for the Performing Arts completes $8.8 million fundraising and renovation campaign. The campaign helped redesign the many components that are at the heart of each theater and touched every aspect of the Centre’s interior. The Centre’s rigging, sound and lighting systems have all been upgraded. This summer’s renovation included 1,000 new seats, new carpets, wall coverings, signage, concession renovations and interior design upgrades.
There will be a public reopening celebration on Sunday, November 13 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to come to this event and visit the new space! Executive Director Jill Barnes says, “The theater upgrades and interior renovations are the result of great care and commitment from many stakeholders. The effort has spanned several years and includes support from donors, local arts organizations, patrons, and our downtown and municipal neighbors.
Renovations are being completed just in time for the start of the 22/23 season. Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dogs Experience on November 4 will be the first performance after the renovation. Audience members are in for a treat as they can enjoy the dogs’ incredible feats as well as the beautifully redone interior of the Washington Center.
“The new interior has a fresh, contemporary aesthetic,” says Barnes, “with materials that complement the existing lobby and performance hall structure.” We invite new and long-time guests to join us for a tour of the building to reacquaint them with their performing arts center. There’s been a lot of energy behind these improvements and we can’t wait to peek behind the curtain at our reopening celebration and showcase them throughout the performing arts season.
