Rutland Regional to Celebrate $4.1 Million Renovation of Psychiatric Services

Vermont Business Magazine Prior to the pandemic, Rutland Regional Medical Center undertook critical PSIU upgrades to comply with safety guidelines and create an updated and more patient-centered psychiatric unit. The PSIU’s $4.1 million renovation celebration will take place on September 14.

“Many of our patients have unique needs and require long hospital stays,” said Lesa Cathcart, RN, PSIU director at Rutland Regional Medical Center. “These renovations will better meet their individual needs and help reduce stress for family and loved ones. The refurbished unit will work more efficiently with soothing features to promote comfort, healing and well-being.

Description and scope of the project:

PSIU, located on the fourth floor of Rutland Regional’s main campus, has undergone a transformation over the past two years. Modifications to the unit include an increase in the number of private rooms for patients, a new nurse’s station, furniture, and regulatory and aesthetic improvements that have helped create a safer, more patient-centered treatment environment. patient and comfortable for patients and their families.

The renovations allowed:

  • An increase in bed capacity with single rooms increasing from 6 to 18, allowing more flexibility in accepting patients and creating a calmer and quieter environment.
  • Improved patient monitoring and sightlines from the nurses station to improve patient safety.

Project cost: $4.1 million
