A brand new megamansion in Arizona’s McDowell Mountains went on the market last week for $28 million, making it the second most expensive deal in the state, according to listing records

Known as Aerie, the over 13,500 square foot residence is part of an exclusive gated community in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Erik Peterson of PHX Architecture, which has offices in Scottsdale and Los Angeles, is behind the home’s contemporary desert design, which combines warm woods, modern finishes and walls of windows to frame surrounding views of McDowell Sonoran Preserve, as listed with Dana and Jeff Bloom of Engel & Völkers Scottsdale.

“The location and the views are amazing,” Ms. Bloom said. “We called it the Aerie, which is an eagle’s nest, because it sits on top of the mountain and overlooks the whole valley.”

The home spec has been in progress for several years. The buyer will be able to customize the final finishes of the residence, Ms Bloom explained, adding that the developer hopes the project will be completed by the end of the year. Although not offered furnished, a turnkey package could be created by the home’s interior designer, Laura Kehoe, at an additional cost.

The underlying property last traded for $1.8 million in 2018, according to PropertyShark records.

There are six bedrooms, with the master bedroom encompassing an entire wing of the home and one of the property’s two hot tubs, according to the agent.

The entertainment level includes a full bar, family room with a golf simulator and pool table, theater, wine cellar, gym, and LED lighting that can be adjusted to suit the mood of guests and residents, Ms. Bloom added. The space opens to an outdoor gazebo and the second hot tub.

The property is part of the gated community of Silverleaf, which features a golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, former PGA champion and now golf course architect, as well as a 50,000 square foot clubhouse with multiple pools , spa and dining options.
