Home under renovation catches fire in New Castle

A house undergoing renovations in New Castle, Lawrence County, caught fire on Sunday morning. The fire broke out at the N. Mercer Street home at around 5:30 am Action News 4 of Pittsburgh has learned that a family living a few blocks away saw the glow in the sky. They woke up the neighbors next to the house who caught fire and took them out of their house. Firefighters also sprayed water on the neighbor’s house to prevent it from catching fire. No one was injured, but firefighters say the house is a total loss. New Castle Town Fire Chief Mike Kobbe said the home being renovated did not have its utilities turned on. The cause is currently under investigation.
