It was a double honor for Hakeem Odumosu, the outgoing Police Commissioner of Lagos State, on Friday in Abuja.
He was decorated with his new rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police by Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba.
He also received an award as the best police commissioner for the year 2021.
The award was presented by the President of the Association of Police Women Officers (POWA), Hajiya Hajjara Usman Alkali Baba.
She said Odumosu was honored for his commitment to women’s empowerment, social development, effective crime control and quality service delivery.
In all, IGP Baba decorated twenty-five newly promoted senior police officers at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Officers who were found worthy in all their offshoots of earning the promotion, were decorated with their new ranks amid cheers from their spouses, loved ones and well-wishers.
Senior officers included Deputy Inspector General of Police Zaki Ahmed, the DIG in charge of the Department of Operations and Deputy Inspector General of Police Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, the DIG in charge of the Department of Research and Planning at Force Headquarters.
Besides Odumosu, five other Deputy Inspectors General of Police were also decorated, who were elevated from their former rank of Police Commissioners.
They are AIG Buba Sanusi (former CP Katsina), AIG Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu (former CP Anti-Fraud, FCID), AIG Bello Sani Dalijan (former CP INEC), AIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar (former CP Yobe), AIG Akingbola Olatunji, former CP Benue.
The seventeen Commissioners of Police who were elevated from their former rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police included CP Josephine Nneka Anyasinti, CP Haruna Gabriel Garba, CP Tajudeen Akinwale Abass.
Most importantly, the husband and wife duo of CP Patrick Kehinde Longe and CP Yetunde Longe were also decorated with their new ranks.
