Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny: Celtic loan was perfectly synchronized

Jonjoe Kenny insists his transfer to Celtic was perfectly timed after agreeing to a six-month loan transfer to Everton.

It’s been a miserable season for the Hoops, with their 10 straight Premiership dreams in tatters.

But Toffees right-back Kenny is excited about the possibilities in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old ex-England Under-21 defender – who goes straight into Neil Lennon’s squad for Thursday’s clash with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park – told CelticTV: t turn down.

“Coming here and playing football at a club like this is perfect for me right now.

“I want to come here and help the club first and foremost, and help the guys.

“Obviously it’s been a little tough, but I just want to come here and do my best and give Celtic my all, go out and play and get some games for me, show people what I can do and show my qualities.

“First of all, I like to play football. I like to get the ball back, play good football, move forward and cross, but on the other hand, I feel like I’m aggressive, I like tackling and giving it my all.

Kenny rose through Everton’s ranks under former Ranger hitman Duncan Ferguson.

He recorded 48 outings for the Goodison Park team, while spending last season in Germany with Bundesliga team Schalke.

He will now occupy the post left by Jeremie Frimpong, who left Celtic Park for Bayer Leverkusen last week.

“I know what awaits me, the challenges I have and that’s why I came here,” added Kenny. “I want to challenge myself and see how far I can push myself too.

“Going to Germany was a whole different experience – a different way of life, learning a new language and becoming like a German, and it was just great.

“It’s another chord in my bow, and all of these experiences will come in handy now that I’ve joined Celtic.

“There’s a lot of history in the air and a lot of better players have come and gone from here, so it was day one and it was just good to be involved and train with the guys.

“The guys were great – the people of Glasgow are similar to the Scousers – so it was great for me to come in and get settled in quickly.

“I want to be involved right away and we’ll see what happens. I’m just meant to be here and we’ll see what happens tomorrow, but the sooner I can play the better for me.
