The Fort Dodge Community School District Board approved several items on Monday evening regarding the Cooper Elementary School renovation project.
Ryan Utley, Director of Buildings and Grounds, presented the plans and offers for the project to the Board of Directors. No changes have been made to the plans since their initial presentation at the October 11 meeting.
Utley said on November 14 that they had opened the auction for the project and that four contractors had bid. The lowest bid came from Jensen Builders Ltd. of Fort Dodge at $ 4,410,000.
The project will include a new HVAC system in the school, new ceilings, lighting and flooring. The renovation will also widen the building’s doors to make them accessible to people with disabilities, Utley said. The project will be funded from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Assistance Fund.
Utley said the project is scheduled to begin on February 1, 2022 and end on August 12, 2022. During the winter break, classrooms at Cooper Elementary School will move to the former Riverside Elementary School for the remainder of the day. ‘school year. Classes will return to Cooper in the fall of 2022.
The board of directors unanimously approved the contract with Jensen Builders, with the exception of board member Angie Tracy, who was absent.
In addition, the Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution provisionally approving the plans, specifications, contract form and estimate for asbestos removal at Cooper Elementary.
Utley said the estimate was around $ 150,000 for the project. This project is expected to start right after the new year and end by the end of January 2022.
Monday’s meeting was held at Fort Dodge Middle School to hold the fall recognition of student achievement.
Dozens of students in various sports and activities have been recognized by the council for their outstanding achievements throughout the season.
Following the ceremony, the board held its regular meeting and sworn in to newly re-elected members Stu Cochrane, Lisa Shimkat and Dan Hansen.
Cochrane was appointed chairman of the board by Shimkat and unanimously approved. Shimkat was appointed vice chairman by Hansen and was also unanimously approved.
