The university’s art museum, renamed Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum in California State University, Long Beach, was expanded by 4,000 square feet, which more than doubled the exhibition space. The addition framing the original brick building features a striking metal panel and stucco facade, with three triangular points adding interest to the roofline. At nearly 15 feet, a diamond-shaped glass vestibule welcomes visitors into the building.

Highlights of the 11,000 square foot community-centric museum include galleries with movable walls, a state-of-the-art education center, air-conditioned storage room, and outdoor gardens with seating. Designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, the museum also features solar panels, energy-efficient light fixtures, sustainable building materials, and water-friendly landscaping.

Clark also renovated the nearby Horn Center, turning the computer lab and counseling center into 10 classrooms, two conference rooms with additional toilets for all genders. The new spaces are more accessible and equipped with the latest educational technologies. The renovated Horn Center, one of the largest computer labs in the whole CSU system, will open to students in November.

Completed on time, both buildings were delivered with an exceptional safety record. The Clark team expertly executed the scope of the program in 17 months, logging over 100,000 craftsman hours without any recordable incidents.

With the substantial completion complete, staff began to move the art to the new museum. The Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Museum of Contemporary Art will open to the public in February.
