Chelsea Flower Show 2022: Tributes to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

0

The 2022 RHS Chelsea Flower Show will commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a range of floral tributes.

Returning to its usual May dates for the first time since the pandemic, the world-renowned flower show will feature several decorative floral and plant displays to reflect the Queen’s long-standing support for the charity – and celebrate her love of flowers.

Highlights honoring Her Majesty include a bespoke sculptural portrait of the Queen in the official Platinum Jubilee shade of purple. Designed by famed florist Simon Lycett, the beautiful figure will be covered with an assortment of native British tree branches, interior shelves arranged with 70 terracotta pots planted with lily of the valley – one of the Queen’s favorite plants which figured in her crowning bouquet.

There will also be a photography exhibition featuring images of the Queen visiting the salon throughout her reign. Designed by Dave Green, the installation will include an accessible bridge walkway that will circulate around the images. Creating a calm and serene setting, it will be set in a woodland-inspired planting scheme, with colors of white, green, purple and blue.

Celebrating the Queen’s love for nature, an immersive installation by floral designers Veevers Carter will feature a canopy of flowers including fresh delphiniums, inspired by the colors and planting of the Scottish landscape near the Balmoral Castle estate of the Royal family. Meanwhile, the iconic Bullring Gate will be adorned with an arch decorated with royal crests reminiscent of a country meadow by Lucy Vail Floristry.

“This year’s RHS Chelsea is going to be particularly special as we celebrate this historic birthday for Her Majesty and the show returns in May following the pandemic,” said Helena Pettit, Director of RHS Gardens and Shows.

“These imaginative floral tributes are an apt and joyous portrayal of a truly unique monarch, and we hope visitors will enjoy seeing them at the show ahead of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”
