PRESQUE ISLE — Donald B. Turner returned from World War II as a decorated veteran and spent the rest of his life supporting his growing family through his job as a mechanic in Aroostook County. Following his passing last September, Turner’s family requested that donations be made in his name to the NMCC Foundation and directed to the NMCC automotive program. These donations were matched by the NMCC Foundation.
The funds donated enabled the Automotive Technology Program to purchase a power-assisted brake bleeder, needed to bleed or bleed air from the brake system of vehicles equipped with anti-lock braking systems after repairs were completed. Almost all vehicles manufactured today use anti-lock braking systems that require special repair procedures.
“We were very honored when the Turner family chose the NMCC Foundation as the recipient of donations, in memory of their father,” said Dr. Dottie Martin, Executive Director of the NMCC Foundation. “Memorial giving has a way of growing in a way that not only meets an immediate need, but also has a longer-term impact. In this case, by purchasing new equipment that will serve the automobile program for several years.
Donations can be made to support specific programs or scholarships through the NMCC Foundation, 33 Edgemont Drive, Près Isle or by contacting Dottie Martin, Executive Director of the Foundation at 207-768-2806 or ndmartin @nmcc.edu.
