Alfond program will provide student loan debt relief

PORTLAND The Harold Alfond Foundation and the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) are seeking student loan debt relief applications for Maine residents who are employed by a Maine-based company in the fields of science, technology and engineering related to STEM. and mathematics. Applications are accepted until November. 15. The Alfond Leaders program helps Maine employers attract and retain talented STEM professionals by providing student loan debt relief of up to $ 60,000 per recipient.

A candidate must have a higher education diploma or certificate, or graduate before May 31, 2021, in order to apply during this current application collection period.

Applicants will be recruited from across the country, and current residents of Maine are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Who is eligible?

Residents of Maine or individuals who will become residents of Maine after being hired by a Maine-based employer; a person employed, or to be employed, by a Maine employer in a designated STEM profession; a holder of a higher education diploma or certificate or having graduated by May 31, 2021; and one with past due student loan debt.

Applicants must submit an application, including a written essay, official transcript and curriculum vitae, a statement of intention to live and work in Maine for six years., employment certification from a Maine-based employer and disclosure of amount, source and the terms of the student loan.

Those selected to become Alfond Executives will receive debt reduction payments made on their behalf, paid in two installments after three and six years, respectively, of qualifying employment.
